How do you lock in loyalty, stay top of mind and generate revenue through conversations?
It's simple, but it's not always easy, and it's NEVER instant. It's time to make a choice with your online persona: if you were advertising on the highway, are you an attraction that people point out & recognize when they pass it, or a forgettable billboard, selling ALL the things, all the time- that people whiz past?
Treat social media like you're an invited guest at an exclusive dinner party.
The "Room" is your feed, filled with peers and dream clients to get to know, so have a conversation! Don't show up like a desperate carny barker, hollering deals & offers to everyone who walks by, hoping someone- ANYONE- stops by and makes a transaction.
When you engage with impact that starts interesting conversations, you draw the attention of your ideal clients, partners or collaborators. I'm not talking about dropping 👏🏾👏🏾 emojis or "congrats!" Lead with curiosity, make genuine contributions to showcase who you are.
Ask questions that lead them down a path that connects you to each other.
You sell dog toys, and a pet parent who follows you on instagram posts a pic of her 17 year Jack Russell, who has totally destroyed his toy. After scrolling past all the "aww, how cute!" comments, it's time for you to raise your paw and say something!
Is it "we sell dog toys that your senior pup would love!" OR- is it the much better comment- "Wow, Beemer is a handsome son of a bitch, who clearly still loves to chew! Many senior dogs his age also love toys with nubs that massage their gums- do you have those for him as well?"
PRO TIP: Never correct people or make them feel like they've done something wrong, unless they ask for correction or help. And even then- humor and kindness beat condescension and know-it-allness all day long.
Provoke thought with a challenging point of view without trolling or being insulting.
You will inevitably come across posts that you disagree with- from Pepsi is better than Coke (LIES!) to Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie (MORE LIES!) When those POVs relate to your business, challenge them with grace and others who agree with you- or simply like your style- will take notice.
They may not click like on your post- everyone isn't comfortable challenging an OP that they support or are friends with. But low key- they will start watching you, and might end up in your DMs. This leads to attracting others who you should be having revenue generating conversations with!
PRO TIP: Ask a follow up question to get a conversation going. Know that sometimes the OP or someone else will dig in rudely or refuse to engage, or even take offense that you challenged their POV.
Ummmm... SO. WHAT. WHO. CARES. Their reaction doesn't change your POV, and those watching, who get your POV, are who you care about anyway.
Attract your people by adding value to the thread and remaining unflinchingly you. Then, nurture those conversations into revenue-generating relationships and pay no mind to those who don't believe "YippyKiYay MFer " can EASILY replace Merry Christmas.
